      1. Domaine de la Romanee Conti - Grand Echezeaux

Deep, luminous, lovely colour, indescribably complex nose, toasty, intriguing fruit, very slight whiff of vanilla and tea; sweet, rich, mouthflling; good length, substantial and hard. Tasting notes by Michael Broadbent MW

      2. Chateau Léoville Las Cases - Grand Cru Classé, Saint-Julien

The late Michel Delon always thought that this was the greatest vintage he had produced. We often tasted it side by side with the 1982, because I always preferred the latter vintage. Of course, the two vintages are quite different in style, with the 1986 a monument to classicism, with great tannin, extraordinary delineation, and a huge, full-bodied nose of sweet, ripe cassis fruit intermixed with vanilla, melon, fruitcake, and a multitude of spices. The wine has always been phenomenally concentrated, yet wonderfully fresh and vigorous. The wine still seems young, yet it is hard to believe it is not close to full maturity. It is a great example of Leoville Las Cases, and another compelling reason to take a serious look at the top Cabernet Sauvignon-based Medocs of 1986. - Robert Parker

      3. Chateau Lynch Bages

Impressive finesse for the vintage, with beautiful, fresh tobacco, cedar and coffee aromas and flavours. Full-bodied and very silky with a fine, long peppery finish.
While this shows a definite maturity, I would never have guessed it was 29 years old - still going strong.

      4. Chateau Cheval Blanc

"The complex, explosively fragrant 1999 Cheval Blanc is a blend of 59% Merlot and 41% Cabernet Franc. It is already showing well, which is a good sign for a wine that traditionally is reserved early in life, but puts on weight and richness in the bottle. Stylistically, this wine is probably cut from the same mold as vintages such as 1985, 1966, and 1962. The colour is a dense ruby with purple nuances. Once past the blockbuster bouquet of menthol, leather, black fruits, licorice, and mocha, the wine reveals medium body, extraordinary elegance, purity, and sweet, harmonious flavours with no hard edges. This is a seamless beauty of finesse, charm, and concentration. The 1999 is an exciting Cheval Blanc to drink relatively young. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2022." - Wine Advocate

      6. Warre's Vintage Port

An outstanding port, with the caramel overtones of great colheita intermingled with the bright, ripe and deep red and black fruit flavours of vintage port. Vibrant and youthful, both on the nose and in the mouth, with a nice spirity kick on the end palate. A very rare vintage to find at all, let alone in Mathusalem.

      7. Chateau Lynch Bages

Medium colour but still still quite a powerful nose. A rich and creamy texture with great depth of chewy blackcurrant fruit. Fleshy but structured. This is still very good indeed. Impressive - even more so when revealed to be 1981! 17 points

      8. Taylors Vintage Port 2000 Magnum

Rich magenta colour. Powerful, intense, black fruit and cherry aromas with lovely fragrant aromatic notes. On the mouth this wine is in perfect harmony with beautifully balanced fruit and tannins. Rich, elegant, luscious black fruit flavours. Enormous concentration with again this attractive scented quality coming through. Long rich finish. Very stylish.

      9. Pol Roger Champagne Magnum

Floral and soft in extreme youth, the Pinot Noir soon reveals itself in a firm yet creamy structure, with plenty of zesty fruit and true depth. Beautifully presented, it makes an ideal gift or special occasion Champagne.

      10. Il Molino di Grace - Gratius

100% Sangiovese, single vineyard from very old vines (around 55 to 70 years old) and steep hillside slopes at 1,312 feet a.s.l. Training is Guyot, three to four buds per vine. Crops are less than 1? tons per acre and extract-packed, harvested by hand after October 10th. The grapes are placed to ferment after a second election of fruit in the winery, at a controlled temperature of 82.4-86° F, macerating on the skins for some 20 days and undergoing full malolactic. The wine is aged 11 months in French barriques and tonneaux (new and 2nd year) and two years in bottle. Colour is deep crimson, the bouquet is rich, complex, intense: ripe black cherries, black berry fruit, spices, white pepper, chocolate, & tobacco on the palate. Great richness and complexity, exquisite balance and an everlasting finish.
